Overview & Reviews
The new-for-'99 Grand Cherokee contains only 127 carryover parts from the previous model, and gets a new powertrain, rear suspension, braking and steering systems, 4WD system, interior and exterior styling.
- Still looks like a Jeep. Better engine performance and handling. Safety.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 L6 - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By AlaskaCommuter - September 24 - 9:40 pmI purchased this vehicle used from a private owner. When I purchased the vehicle, I knew that I would need to replace a few parts but did not suspect just how many I would actually have to replace. I have since had to replace all shocks, all rotors, pads, calipers, the muffler, a steering damper, all tie rod ends, an EVAP canister, both hood supports, the rear windshield wipers motor and both headlights. I still need to replace the driver side ball joints, and something within the vacuum system. I put a K&N air filter in & high-flow muffler, with absolutely zero difference in gas mileage. Have constant minor and foreshadowing problems, that always stay true. Would not recommend buying ever.

Junk - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By RRyan1 - September 16 - 10:00 amAwful! 60,000 miles and the brake system (pads, calipers and rotors) replaced twice; rear differential & axle replaced twice (under warranty fortunately); transmission replaced once. $35,000 cars should not fall apart like this. Partially my fault- should not have trusted claims that quality of American cars had improved. I love America but will never purchase American designed/built auto again.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By apg - August 15 - 2:00 amWe have owned this vehicle just over 1 year. It has only had a few minor problems which were quite inexpensive to repair. Handles very well in the snow and ice. Wish fuel economy was better but still is quite good in comparison to other similar sized SUV. Would buy another one when the time comes.

Get a clue - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By plasticpro - August 14 - 10:00 amGreat styling vehicle. Rides nice with the unibody construction. Chrysler has NO CLUE how to make brakes. After 10,000 miles all down hill. Dilligently, washed my vehicle every week, however tree sap still ate through my clearcoat. Paint is like butter.

A nice Jeep:) - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JEEPLOVAH99 - July 27 - 2:00 amI bought a Jeep Grand Cheerokee for our family just last summer. I had bought it used from the dealership. The person who had owned it before I had it out on a 3 year lease. I have been very pleased with its performance from bringing my family for Prince Edward Island and Back to Maine. It also has bought us down to Massachusettes many times to visit with relatives.

My 1999 Jeep grand Cherokees story - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JJJ - July 4 - 2:00 amWe bought this Jeep as a tow vehicle for a 20 runabout. I cant complain because there has been no problems in the last 10,000 mile. From all the reviews Ive read,it seem these jeeps are either a hit or a failure with nothing in the middle. Perhaps Chrysler should take note and increase quality control or extend warrenties to 10 years.

Mines been very good - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Like MY Jeep - June 1 - 9:23 pmWow, I cant believe how lucky Ive been. My Grand Cherokee Ltd has been great with only the brake issue ever a problem. Ive been through 2 sets of rotors and pads in 4 years. I drive it fast and hard all the time and love the way it handles except for the side to side rocking over bumps which takes some getting used to. I have the 6 cylinder and AWD (not Quadra that came with the V8s) and my mpg seems to hover around 16-17 except in really cold weather when it drops to 14. Tows my 20 boat with ease. Upright comfy seating, leather is high quality, midsized (think station wagon). I think its better looking (the 99 version) than the latest model. I liked my 93 Grand Cherokee Limited too. Guess I knew what I was buying.

Regret - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Sil_Virginia - May 28 - 10:00 amWhen you see the Jeep service manager more often than many members of your family, something is wrong. Power window motor broke twice, brake rotors warped three times, radiator fan broken, etc.

lemon of a dealer, lemon of a jeep - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By atlmberry - May 22 - 2:00 amPlan on heavy expenses for maintenance (nothing was covered under the gold extended jeep warranty). before 45k miles, I replaced the AC system, brakes, battery (twice), various electrical components, power window modules, memory seat module, stereo speakers, stereo controls on steering wheel, etc. Everytime I started the vehicle, the seat would propel me into the dash - jeep couldnt find the problem, not to mention the calls for a tow truck because it wouldnt start - so I got the opportunity to spend lots of time and money in the shop. Lots of road noise with this vehicle. It may look good from the outside, but its not worth the headaches.
